Joshua's Kindergarten readiness test.

Here is a copy of the test Joshua did. The learning assistant said that 83% is quite a high score. He is so smart. Anyway, he scored low on motor skills which she took me, is something that comes with age and even often older kids aren't that good with that yet. It is not something that can really be worked on, just will improve in time. Click on the image and it should come out much bigger and hopefully more legible. Posted by Picasa

My son Jonas has problems with his motor skills. The best thing to do is get them practising early with a pencil, crayons, playing play dough etc. He is in grade one and still is having problems printing, but has come a long way.
We were told baking was a great way to strengthen motor skills: rolling cookies, mixing the dough.
Sounds like he's reading for kindergarten!!!

Jenny,
They were saying that it is his gross motor skills. THe way they tested was to get him to stand on one foot and hop and walk heel toe, etc. He is actually quite good at printing already and she suggested I practise with him his pencil grip which I do already. I will try that with the baking. He loves helping around the kitchen. I think that the gross motor skills could explain why he and Annabelle are consistantly falling off chairs and not about to walk on curbs very well. Thank you so much for your advise. I really appreciate that.

So does this mean that Joshua will be entering kindergarten in September?!

Andrew, this doesn't mean that. It only means that he is accidemically ready but it is more about the board meeting coming up if they will decide they want to bend the rules for him. It also matters if he is socially ready and if they think that he will handle being in a group of older children okay. So, we wait on. We will email you and let you know though as soon as we hear.

Hi Lovie: I tried to read this but couldn't, even when it was magnified. Sorry.
