Update on the rocks

The joy of checking rocks portrayed in a child's smile. I love it. After the first day tumbling we forgot to check the rocks till Joshua was asleep so I checked them on my own. The manual says to check them every day as they are in between the steps. After the second day, I didn't forget! I got Joshua down there just before bed and we just pulled out one rock. It was slightly smoother but not a notable difference yet.

After the third day the whole family went down and took out a few rocks, 4 to be exact and we checked them out. They were looking shinier for sure.
Adam was trying to hold the camera still to get a clear shot of the rocks close up but if your hand shakes even a little bit, the camera will take a blurry shot, hence the blurriness of this picture. But the best one we have of the rocks that night.
The water just from cleaning off 4 rocks! Gross. And the manual says that you never dump the water in a household drain. I guess it hardens like cement. So the water all had to be dumped outside.
Now, this was tonight. The night that we get to move to the next step. 4 nights in the first step, 7 nights in the second. Joshua was so excited!
The lovely water. Many trips to dump outside before we got it clean. We just kept transferring the rocks from dirty to clean, dumping dirty and doing it again.
One of the final transfers from bucket to bucket.
Yes, this is the clean water!
Joshua's favourite rock tonight.
Some of the rocks
Have you ever picked up a shiny, smooth pebble on the beach or along a riverbank? Mother nature polished that stone by gently washing it in water and sand or gravel until all the rough edges were smoothed away. The the inner colors and unique composition of the stone were uncovered! You can do the same in your Rock Tumbler; it s faster than nature, but still takes time and patience. you can expect to have beautiful polished rocks in 2-4 weeks.
This is what the manual says. First of all, nature and mother nature were actually capitalized in the manual. I believe it was a MISS PRINT. It should say, GOD the Creator of the earth, the One who thought up every wonderful method of bringing out beauty. Just had to add that in.

The kinds of rocks Joshua has in here are Tiger eye (they are the most shiny and easiest to spot, lovely already!), Green Aventurine (they almost look like just a lighter coloured jade, gorgeous!), Brazil Agate, Red Agate, carnelian.
One of the tiger eye, but because of the flash you can't see the true beauty of it. It shines so nice! I am amazed!
Getting ready for the final rinse of the rocks before they go back in the tumbler.
Rinsing away!
Back in the tumbler
After they are all in the tumbler
Adding the sand. He looks a little unimpressed here but he was not at all.
With the sand
Joshua setting the timer for 7 days
The blurry pose before we finished up!
Well, I have to admit, I am enjoying this way more than I thought that I would and it truly is amazing how much variety God has made. Just imagine if there were only one kind of rock. How boring! But we would never have known what we were missing. God just filled the earth with His beauty so we could be in awe, time and time again. You do amaze me my Lord and my God!

Psa 104:1 Bless Jehovah, O my soul. O Jehovah my God, thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honor and majesty:
Psa 104:2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment; Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain;
Psa 104:3 Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters; Who maketh the clouds his chariot; Who walketh upon the wings of the wind;
Psa 104:4 Who maketh winds his messengers; Flames of fire his ministers;
Psa 104:5 Who laid the foundations of the earth, That it should not be moved for ever.
Psa 104:6 Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a vesture; The waters stood above the mountains.
Psa 104:7 At thy rebuke they fled; At the voice of thy thunder they hasted away
Psa 104:8 (The mountains rose, the valleys sank down) Unto the place which thou hadst founded for them.
Psa 104:9 Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; That they turn not again to cover the earth.
Psa 104:10 He sendeth forth springs into the valleys; They run among the mountains;
Psa 104:11 They give drink to every beast of the field; The wild asses quench their thirst.
Psa 104:12 By them the birds of the heavens have their habitation; They sing among the branches.
Psa 104:13 He watereth the mountains from his chambers: The earth is filled with the fruit of thy works.
Psa 104:14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, And herb for the service of man; That he may bring forth food out of the earth,
Psa 104:15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, And oil to make his face to shine, And bread that strengtheneth man's heart.
Psa 104:16 The trees of Jehovah are filled with moisture, The cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
Psa 104:17 Where the birds make their nests: As for the stork, the fir-trees are her house.
Psa 104:18 The high mountains are for the wild goats; The rocks are a refuge for the conies.
Psa 104:19 He appointed the moon for seasons: The sun knoweth his going down.
Psa 104:20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night, Wherein all the beasts of the forest creep forth.
Psa 104:21 The young lions roar after their prey, And seek their food from God.
Psa 104:22 The sun ariseth, they get them away, And lay them down in their dens.
Psa 104:23 Man goeth forth unto his work And to his labor until the evening.
Psa 104:24 O Jehovah, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: The earth is full of thy riches.

Wow that is so neat. I'm glad for Joshua that the rock tumbler is turning out to work pretty good. And that he gets to be the one helping the process along. Very cool. :)

Reading your rock posts has actually made me want to get one for Kaylie ... but I bet she'd forget about it. She's not as in to rocks.

Sharon: It is wonderful! Joshua is enjoying every minute of it!

Mom: Thanks a bundle Mama!

Jen: Annabelle and Joel are enjoying the whole thing almost as much as Joshua and they aren't into rocks anything like he is. It might just be facinating for almost any kid. But for the price you would probably want to be pretty sure that she would really enjoy it.

Darci: We didn't buy the rocks. They came with the polisher though. It also came with glue and things to make jewlery with the rocks afterwards. There is a nice necklace change, earrings, rings, and a bunck of keychains which will be awesome for Joshua to give as gifts I think! But the lady in the store said she is pretty sure any rocks will work. Next time we will try river rocks and see what happens. Of course they won't turn into semi precious stones but they should shine up and all. I hope so. You can do up to 8 ounces of rocks at a time.
